Adewale Akinnuoye-Agabje hosts UK Nigerians at London screening of his movie FARMING (Out October 11)


The UK Nigeria diaspora community were last night at Odeon Cinema Greenwich hosted to a  special media screening of Adewale Akinnuoye - Agbaje's new film Farming. The movie (distributed in the UK by Lionsgate) which is a true life story of the director Akinnuoye - Agbaje dramatises the practice of 'farming' between the 60s to 80s in the UK when thousands of Nigerian children were sent to live with white families. 

During the Q&A session hosted by Dj Abass, the director talked about the challenge of reliving his traumatic past as he made the movie, why it took him 15 years to finally put the film in the can and how he subsequently started the process of rebuilding and reconnecting with his parents and siblings. Farming will be showing in UK cinemas from October 11.

SYNOPSIS
Farming is the story of a young Nigerian boy (Enitan) ‘farmed out’ by his parents to a white British family in the hope of a better future, instead becomes the feared leader of a white skinhead gang. Farming is the term used for the process that involved thousands of Nigerian chlidren between the 60’s and 80’s entrusted to the ‘care’ of white working class families (Story based on the life of the director Adewale Agbaje)
